I’m a sucker for holiday cards. I love the look of them with snowflakes or the elements that showcase the winter holidays on cards.

While at the MLB Store in New York City, I spotted what looked to be a Pokemon-type tin behind the cash register. It turned out it was a holiday tin. It contained 58 cards with three exclusive holiday tree parallels.

I grabbed one because how could I not open something so adorable as this ball that was hiding as an ornament?

The holiday cards have a pretty blue border on the outside. The inside border has fir tree elements with four neon designs on the image’s background. The neon signs do not have the pop that the borders do. There’s also snow falling with most of the snow on the bottom of the card.

Winter threw up on this year’s 2024 Topps Holiday baseball cards — and I love it.

The three tree parallels were Lars Nootbar, Dansby Swanson and Williams Contreras. The tree is on the outside, but it also has the elements of texture added to the neon signs in the background of the card. These a reminiscent of the snowflake parallels of years past.

I also got what looks to be a Blue Metallic Holiday Tree, which is exclusive to the holiday tins, of Matt Olson. Based on the odds, it looks as though there is one of these parallels per tin.

These Topps holiday tins are pretty nice. They run about $20 and are a run rip for collectors. I opened it with my son and he had a great time going through the cards.

We were happy to pull a Jasson Dominguez rookie card. We got a decent amount of rookies with Dominguez along with Elly de la Cruz, Yoshinobi Yamamoto and Pete Crow-Armstrong.

This year’s Topps Holiday cards seem to have a lot of parallels. There seem to be at least 11 different base parallels, but you can’t get all of them in one box. The Tree parallels are exclusive to the tins while the other parallels can be found in the Mega Boxes.

There are other fun cards in the holiday boxes, including gingerbread, elves and who knows what else.

I asked about holiday cards this week on Twitter/X and it seemed many collectors participating in Card Chat this week were not into these cards. But these cards could make for a good gift or stocking stuffer for the holidays.

How do you feel about holiday cards?
