2025 Topps Baseball Series 1: 5 Rookies to Collect
With 2025 Topps Baseball Series 1 nearly here, many collectors are wondering what rookies will be appearing on cards.
There are about 60 players making their first appearance in the flagship release highlighted by Washington Nationals’ Dylan Crews and James Woods, Cincinnati Reds’ Rhett Lowder and the Baltimore Orioles’ Coby Mayo.
The 2025 rookie class isn’t as strong as 2024’s monster class that saw the likes of Paul Skenes, Jasson Dominguez, Jackson Merrill and a slew of other collectible players. But the good news is that you never know who will be a breakout star.
There are a lot of pitching prospects in 2025 Topps Baseball Series 1 getting rookie cards, but pitchers don’t always make the most collectible cards.
Skenes is an obvious departure but because of his dynamic talent and social media savviness, Skenes has rocketed to the top of many collectors’ want lists.
There are some rookies that Topps is holding for Series 2 like the Mets’ Luisangel Acuna, but he should be in other early-season baseball card products.
For collectors, this isn’t a superstar rookie checklist, but there is a chance for good sleepers. Here are five rookies to watch from 2025 Topps Baseball Series 1.
2025 Topps Baseball Rookies to Collect
Dylan Crews, Washington Nationals: Crews was the second overall draft pick in 2023. He made his MLB debut just a year later when the Nats called him up in late last August. In about a month’s worth of time, he only hit .219 with three home runs. But no one is expecting that long term from the No. 4 overall prospect in 2025.
James Woods, Washington Nationals: Crews’ teammate James Woods was a second-round pick in 2021 and was part of the Juan Soto trade with the Padres in 2022. The outfielder showed a little pop last year with nine home runs in 79 games. Woods and Crews will be an outfield combo to watch this season.
Rhett Lowder, Cincinnati Reds: The Reds have had a plethora of young talent over the past few seasons and 2025 is no different. Lowder was picked seventh overall in 2023 and the second pitcher taken in that draft only behind Skenes. A lot of Reds fans are going to have their eyes on the young hurler.
Coby Mayo, Baltimore Orioles: Mayo is a top-20 prospect entering the season. The corner infielder has power and that’s exactly what collectors love to see. He didn’t make a lot of noise in his time in the Big Leagues last season but is looking to add his powerful bat to an already stacked lineup.
Jacob Wilson, Athletics: Wilson is the son of former All-Star Jack Wilson. The 2023 sixth overall pick is expected to hit for average and get on base for the A’s. Wilson made his debut in July, but it was quickly derailed by injuries. It will be interesting to watch the young shortstop and how he can make a name for himself in the Big Leagues.
