When 2024 Topps Baseball Series 1 came out, I jumped into a huge player break for Anthony Rizzo. We were going rainbow chasing!

I completed the 2022 Topps Baseball rainbow for Rizzo, including the Platinum 1/1, so I figured how tough could another be?

I didn’t consider how different the chase would be just two years later. I didn’t factor in print runs or the extra parallels that Topps created in two years. I simply wanted fun cards.

So, I bought into a 100-case jumbo break getting all the Anthony Rizzo base cards and parallels, including the Silver Pack cards.

Thank goodness for the Silver Packs, which saved the break for me. I got a couple of Chrome parallels, including a gold autograph.

However, let’s focus on the base set.

2024 Topps Baseball Series 1 has 37 parallels, including retail parallels, which were not going to be in the jumbo boxes. So, a few fewer parallels could be found.

Now, compare that to 2022 that had just 20.

Just 20 … but that’s an increase of 85 percent in two years.

But still you would think in 100 cases, there would be a few parallels. Perhaps lucky enough to get a low-numbered one.

That was not the case. You can watch the video to see exactly how I did.

Spoiler alert: Not great.

In this day when the card manufacturers are creating so much product that the odds for the parallels get higher and higher, it’s getting tougher to join player breaks for the purpose of chasing rainbows.

I am chasing the rainbow for Anthony Rizzo’s 2024 Topps Baseball Update 300th career home run season highlights card. This time, I’m buying singles and not jumping into breaks.

And it’s already cheaper.
