Advent (or countdown) calendars have become insanely popular over the last several years.

They’re used as a way to countdown the days until Christmas, usually starting on Dec. 1. Companies have found ways to create their own twist on them with new products whether it’s about toys, socks, jam and, even, cards.

This year, Topps created a Topps Holiday Baseball Advent Calendar with doors numbering 1 to 24. Each day comes with a new exclusive Topps Holiday pack or cards.

Panini has also created an Absolute Football Countdown Calendar with a chance at Kaboom! cards for the football card lovers looking to get into the action.

There have been years where my family has had up to three Advent calendars. There were Disney calendars that included a new mini figurine each day in the mix and calandars that reveaeled a holiday theme.

The last three years, we bought the Pokémon TCG Holiday Calendar, which has become the go-to holiday calendar for us. The Pokémon Calendar includes foil cards with a festive design, a handful of booster packs, “fun” packs that have three cards inside, coins, a sticker sheet and a keychain.

Last year, my son woke me up early one morning to show me the card he pulled. He knew it was good one.

To be fair this isn’t the norm with the Pokémon holiday calendars. We don’t go in thinking that we are going to pull a crazy valuable card.

Like every card box we open, we just want to have fun.

We did end up buying the new Topps Advent Calendar. We love cards and this is a fun way to enjoy them while the weather starts to get cold. While the MSRP is $40, it’s tough to find it one that price unless you were able to order from the Topps site directly.

We did not.

I wound up buying the box for $100. The going price is about $115-$125 on eBay.

I’m not disappointed by the price. I’m excited to spend next month opening a new pack of holiday cards. I haven’t bought much sealed wax this year (last two weeks not withstanding), so I look forward to opening a fresh pack soon.
